Pierzynski reappointed as CFAES Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education and Director of the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station

We are pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr. Gary Pierzynski as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education and Director of the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) for a second four-year term July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2026. Dr. Pierzynski holds a B.S. in Crop and Soil Science from Michigan State University, a M.S. in Environmental Chemistry from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in Soil Chemistry from The Ohio State University.  

As Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education and Director of the Ohio Agricultural Experience Station, Dr. Pierzynski serves in a college-wide role providing leadership for research and graduate education across the Columbus, CFAES Wooster, and statewide campuses. During his first term, he and his team facilitated the approval of the CFAES research exemption process to sustain research productivity during the COVID pandemic; formed the CFAES Research Advisory Committee; facilitated the approval of three new college centers and renewed two others; coordinated the transition of the Food Animal Health Research Program into the Center for Food Animal Health within CFAES; expanded services offered through the Grants Development Support Unit; enhanced graduate student resources available through CFAES; and redesigned the Annual Research Conference. Dr. Pierzynski also served as President of the American Society of Agronomy and as a member of the UN-FAO Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils.

During his next term, Dr. Pierzynski will continue and increase attention to identifying priorities/themes and how those priorities can be leveraged for larger grants, resource decision-making, and facility development; continue focus on clarifying processes and support for centers, institutes, labs, and other research entities; increase attention to support of graduate students, DEI initiatives and collaborations; and build more opportunities with Academic Programs for undergraduate research.
