Ando Appointed Next Chair of the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Amy Ando, Professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), has accepted our offer to serve as the next Professor and Chair of the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics (AEDE). Feedback across those who engaged in the search process noted Dr. Ando’s strengths and experience in leadership, propensity for collaboration, clarity of vision, and skills as a scholar. Her 4-year appointment begins July 16, 2023, pending approval by the university’s Board of Trustees.

Dr. Ando earned her B.A. in Economics from Williams College in 1990 and her Ph.D. in Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1996. She began her career as a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Virginia (1995-1996). From 1996 -1999, Dr. Ando was a Fellow in the Quality of the Environment Division at Resources for the Future. In 1999 she started her career in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics (ACE) at UIUC as an assistant professor with promotion to associate professor in 2005. In 2006, Dr. Ando was a visiting scholar in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Oregon State University. She then returned to UIUC where she was promoted to Professor in ACE in 2013 and named a University Fellow at Resources for the Future in 2015. Dr. Ando has received several awards for excellence in research and teaching.
